Development and habitat alterations have severely impacted native turtle populations throughout Oregon and the Northwest. Turtles need areas with slow moving water and just the right vegetation.
Turtles are skittish and easily disturbed by all kinds of human (and dog) activities.
People take turtles home as pets, even though they don’t make good pets.
